It’s not every day that two gentle souls exchange vows against a magnificent backdrop of a world heritage site that also happens to be one of the seven natural wonders in the world…
As for how they met Kim explains that she received a friend request from “Shaunie” as she affectionately calls him, and noticed that they have quite a few friends in common. On his birthday she decided to congratulate him and when he replied with a sweet and appreciative message, they hit it off.
A few weeks later Shaun contacted Kim to say that he was in the area and asked if they could meet. This would be their first face-to-face conversation and “all I had to offer him upon arrival was tea and biscuits.” a demure Kim admits.
The sweet treats definitely did the trick as the two talked for hours and enjoyed one another’s company.
Shaun knew he wanted to be with Kim right from the get go and chose a beautiful summer’s afternoon to take her “to lunch” in Franschoek. While Kim briefly went inside, Shaun’s brother Warren sent him a text to ask where they were. Suspecting a hint of romance, he jokingly said that there better be a ring involved, to which Shaun replied: “There’s actually one in pocket!”
Lunch was followed by a scenic drive to the top of the Franschhoek Pass for a quick stop to appreciate the view and take a few photos.
“He kept saying he loved me and squeezed my hand. Then he got down on one knee…I was so shocked I asked” are you really doing this?” I had to make sure he wasn’t tying his shoelaces… Ha-ha!
Shaun responded by asking Kim to marry him and of course, she said YES!
We decided we had to tell our parents so we called them for a coffee date at Hazendal Wine Estate that same day. We had to pick up Shaun’s mom, so I took the ring off and hid it in my pocket. We had to play it cool. Once seated, we shared the good news. The moms cried happy tears.
They shared their special day with their closest friends and family overlooking the Table Mountain National Park.
Shaun and his brother (both gifted musicians) surprised guests with a live band they put together. Both bride & co was mightily impressed and enjoyed a magical sunset and celebration.
